Why different countries have different standards for shoe sizes

Various countries worldwide have different shoe sizes across the world. For example in continental Europe is different than shoe sizes in United States and Japan and even United Kingdom.

Reason was very simple, before 1940’s pretty much shoe sizes were developed exclusively on national or country level. Thus since this period there ha been an attempt, rather successful to standardize the shoe sizes across the world, which is what we have today.
